Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill is expected to recover from a minor muscle spasm ahead of the upcoming IPL 2026 match against Delhi Capitals (DC), according to the latest reports. The opening batter missed the match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR), and his absence was precautionary.

The minor injury forced Gill out of the match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday, April 4. Vice-captain Rashid Khan took over leadership duties for the Gujarat Titans during their first home game of the season. Notably, they have already suffered two defeats in the marquee tournament.

The Times of India journalist Gaurav Gupta shared an update on Gill’s fitness. He reported that Gill is likely to return for the game against the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 8.

"#IPLupdate #ShubmanGill likely to return to action fr @gujarat_titans in their next match vs @DelhiCapitals in Delhi tomorrow! Gill missed the last match vs @rajasthanroyals due to back spasms!" Gaurav Gupta wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Shubman Gill Misses Multiple Matches Due To Recurring Muscle Spasms

Shubman Gill has been dealing with recurring muscle spasm issues, mainly around his neck, over the last 18 months. This has affected his availability, including missing a T20I during the Sri Lanka tour and the first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru.

The issue also forced him to walk off during the first Test against South Africa in Kolkata. He later missed the second Test in Guwahati due to the same problem.

Gill has a lot to prove, especially after missing out on India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2026 at the last moment.

In his absence, Rashid Khan has led Gujarat Titans on multiple occasions. He first captained the team in 2022 when Hardik Pandya was unavailable and also led the side against Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2023.

Delhi Capitals In Strong Form, Gujarat Titans Look To Bounce Back

Delhi Capitals are in strong form, especially with the ball. Their bowlers have performed well in the last two matches, with captain Axar Patel contributing in both the powerplay and middle overs.

Lungi Ngidi and Mukesh Kumar have impressed with the new ball. Sameer Rizvi has also scored three consecutive fifties, including one from last season.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans, led by Shubman Gill, have struggled despite having a strong squad. Their middle order failed during a 211-run chase against Rajasthan Royals.

Shubman Gill missed the previous match due to a muscle spasm, but Rashid Khan said he should be fit for the clash against Delhi Capitals. They have faced each other seven times. Gujarat have won 4 matches, including two wins in three matches at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
