Will Shubman Gill play the Gujarat Titans' (GT) upcoming match against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi? There are doubts ahead of the DC vs GT match of the IPL 2026 as the Gujarat captain missed the previous match because of a muscle spasm.
In the absence of Gill, GT lost the match to the Rajasthan Royals. Without Shubman in the lineup, the team was forced to change the opening pair well. Along with their regular opener, Sai Sudharsan, the team paired up another emerging batter, Kumar Kushagra, to face the new ball. Sudharshan played well, but the young opener failed to impress, scoring 18 runs off 14 balls.
Will the Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill, be able to play vs the Delhi Capitals?
Ahead of the Gujarat Titans' upcoming fixture, Sai Sudharsan provides an update on their skipper. Sudharshan confirmed that their leader is all set to play against the Delhi Capitals. "Shubman is coming along well. He'll be playing tomorrow,” Sudharsan said in the pre-match press conference.
Afghanistan star Rashid Khan led the team against the Rajasthan Royals in their previous fixture. Without Gill at the top of the batting order, the team fought well, but eventually lost grip of the contest and returned empty-handed after a close battle.
Shubman Gill has a history of neck issues
During the match, Shubman was spotted wearing bandages on his shoulder and neck. The batter has had a history of neck spasms since the 2025–26 home Test season. So, for valid reasons, the franchise did not want to make any unnecessary decision that could risk the batter's future in the ongoing league.
Ahead of their match against the Delhi Capitals, Sudharshan mentioned that his opening partner will play the match. As Gill is all set to make a comeback in the playing combination, Kumar Kushagra is expected to drop from the eleven.
Will the team management select Jason Holder to strengthen the middle-order?
More than the opening pair, the Gujarat Titans' main concerns can be their middle-order, where they lacked against the Rajasthan Royals. They have a replacement in their squad, in the form of West Indies international Jason Holder, who was in terrific form with the national cricket team, ahead of the IPL 2026 season.
In the previous match, batting first, RR secured 210 runs in their 20-over limit. GT started the chase well with their dependable opener Sai Sudharsan. Sudharshan's 73-run knock against 44 balls kept GT in the run chase. Apart from him, the remaining batting part of the team underperformed, especially the middle-order. Jos Buttler's 26 runs provided some support to the team, but that was not enough.
Against the Royals' 210, the Titans' managed to get 204 in their innings. The middle-order batters like Glenn Phillips, Washington Sundar, and Rahul Tewatia could not perform according to their reputations. Rajasthan Royals eventually won the match by 6 runs. GT will have to chalk out a solution to keep the batting unit ready to fire.
