India opener Shubman Gill, who had a terrific start to his Test career against Australia down under and who had continued to hold onto his place at the top of the order, might miss the first few Test matches of the upcoming five-match series against England starting August 4.
The first Test, which will be played at Nottingham, might not see Shubman Gill walking out to bat with Rohit Sharma, as the young India opener is injured and is virtually ruled out of the first few Tests, if not for the entire five-Test series, against England.

Gill had recently opened the innings for India in the World Test Championship final against New Zealand and managed just 36 runs, continuing his lukewarm run of form which began with the England Test series at home, where he managed just one half-century in 7 innings of four Tests.
Shubman Gill Expected To Be Out Of Action For A Long Time
A report from Cricbuzz said that the exact nature of his injury is not known, but it is most likely that the 21-year-old has been carrying an internal injury, which has now aggravated and will keep him out of immediate action. Reports have versions varying from calf, shin injury to hamstring damage, but what is certain is that the problem is of that nature that will keep him out for a long time.

It has also been reported that Gill will not be flying back to India and will remain with the touring party since there is hope that he might get fit for the later part of the Test series and come into the scheme of things sometime during the Test series, which ends only after two and half months, on September 14.
The BCCI has requested for practice games against counties from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), but there has been no news of any development thus far.
