India National Cricket Team vice-captain Shubman Gill reflected on the criticism that the team has been facing after defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He said that one series won't define the form of players and had they won the last game, the series would've ended in a draw.
India National Cricket Team suffered a 3-1 thrashing at the hands of Australia National Cricket Team in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The Rohit Sharma-led side wasn't up to the mark with the bat and ball and also missed out on a place in the final of the ICC World Test Championship.

Indian batters, in particular, struggled to get going in the series, and one of the poor performers was Shubman Gill. The young batter didn't play all the games but in the three games that he featured, he failed to set the stage on fire. He had starts under his belt but couldn't convert them.
India despite the poor effort, had a great chance to draw the series in the last match at Sydney. They took the first innings lead of 4 runs and then failed to score big in the second innings as they scored 157, setting the Australia National Cricket Team a target of just 162 runs on a tricky pitch.
One of the things that didn't work in favor of India was Jasprit Bumrah's injury. The fast bowler, who was captaining the team, got injured in the first innings and didn't bowl in the second innings, which turned out in favor of Australia as they won the series with a margin of 3-1.
One series does not define the form of the whole team - Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill, while talking about Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, said that the injury to Jasprit Bumrah changed things for them. He stressed that had they won the game, the talks of people related to the team wouldn't have happened. Speaking to reporters ahead of the 1st ODI against England, he said:
"One series does not define the form of the whole team. We were unfortunate not to have (Jasprit) Bumrah on the last day, and we would have won the match, and the series would have been a draw, and this talk wouldn't have happened. There are a lot of players who, in the past, have performed consistently in a lot of series and tournaments"
We did not play as per our expectations in the Australian series - Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill admitted that they didn't play to their expectations in the series but pointed out that they have played good cricket in the past. While elaborating on the same, he said:
"We did not play as per our expectations in the Australian series, but still, we played some good cricket. One match and one day doesn't define us. We won there twice before, and earlier, we won a World Cup and then reached the final of a World Cup, so we should keep all those things in mind."
Shubman Gill has been appointed as the vice-captain of the Indian team for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England National Cricket Team and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The batter will be next seen in action during the first game, which will be played on 6th February in Nagpur.
The three-match ODI series against England will be a great opportunity for Shubman Gill to return to form and make his team win. He has a great record in the 50-over cricket and would want to carry on that to help his team win.
