Shubman Gill Ordered Not To Follow Virat Kohli

India's new Test captain, Shubman Gill, continues to receive criticism for bad-mouthing England's Zak Crawley and showing unwanted aggression on the field during the Third Test at Lord's.

The incident dates back to the ending moments of Day 3 at Lord's, when India, after being bowled out for 387, took the field immediately, aiming to bowl at least two overs before stumps were called on Day 3.

During this, Jasprit Bumrah had the new ball for India, while England openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett took guard at the wicket.

Crawley, like every possible Test batter, adopted the strategy to waste some time on the field with some pretentious activities to keep the innings down to only one over.

However, tempers rose when Indian skipper Shubman Gill charged at both the England openers and confronted them in a heated exchange of words.

Manoj Tiwary bashes Shubman Gill for unwanted aggression

After the calm, Gill started losing his temper; he seemed to have irked many greats of the game as well as several critics. Manoj Tiwary, the former Indian cricketer, is now a new addition to the long list of critics.

He has come forward to openly bash Gill's unwanted transition to an aggressive skipper and has also reflected on the fact that it has largely affected his batting. Shubman Gill, having a dream form with the bat in England, was a complete flop in the Lord's Test.

“I don’t like the way Captain Gill is going about things. I think he is trying to copy what Virat did last time. And as a result, it is not helping his batting,” Tiwary was quoted by SportsBoom.

The former Bengal captain showed another side of aggressive Test captaincy. He said, “I know a captain should lead from the front, but this much aggression is not required. It takes your energy away. He can stick to his style of being aggressive. It doesn’t mean that you have to always give it back verbally. Aggression can also be shown by winning Test matches.”

Manoj Tiwary seemed upset over the use of foul language; Blames veterans for setting the wrong example

Other than Gill's actions and blaming the unwanted aggression for India's loss at Lord's, he seemed upset over the offensive language Gill used towards a fellow sportsman.

“I am not happy with the language and words that are coming in the audio when they are near the stumps. You are representing the Indian cricket team."

"I think this has become a trend, as previous captains have probably used such words to express their anger, but this needs to be controlled. If you use slang, the next generation will pick it up,” he also bashed former Indian captains for setting a wrong example for the youngsters.

Shubman Gill was advised to follow in the footsteps of MS Dhoni for India captaincy

Former Indian World Cup-winning coach and Shubman Gill's former coach in the IPL, Gary Kirsten, provided a major lead to Gill after India trailed 1-2 at Lord's.

He said Gill is a great thinker and has the full potential to be a great skipper for India in the coming years.

He identified MS Dhoni, the former Indian captain, as an amazing man-manager and cited that Shubman should follow in his footsteps, as it would enhance his abilities as a skipper.
