India’s talented opener Shubman Gill has revealed that Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon tried to intimidate him during the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Series. Shubman Gill was one of the main factors in the famous run chase at Brisbane as he scored a brilliant 91 in just 146 deliveries which paved the way for Rishabh Pant to go for the kill at the end.

Shubman Gill scored 259 runs in six innings at an average of 51.8 which are pretty good numbers for a touring opener at Australia for the first time. He also stitched useful partnerships with Rohit Sharma at the top of the order and played delightful shots which was the highlight of his game.

His backfoot punches and pull shots destroyed the bowling plans of Australia and shattered their mindsets. He was rewarded for his excellent performances with a place in the squad for England Series.

Shubman Gill Lets His Bat Do The Talking

Shubman Gill had revealed that he stayed very calm and composed at the crease when Nathan Lyon tried to intimidate him. He told that he let his bat do the talking as the Australians were trying to sledge Indians on the field.

He also was in praise of his teammate Mohammad Siraj who never got carried away when a lot of incidents were happening around him, including the demise of his father and the alleged racism incident on the boundary ropes.

“Nathan Lyon tried to intimidate me, but I kept my cool, remained calm. I wanted my bat to do the talking. The team never got intimidated by the sledging. Siraj paaji is a great guy. He performed so well, didn’t get affected by any such incident while bowling. He gave his best on the field despite his father’s demise and the spectators making remarks at him,” said Shubman Gill.

Shubman Gill Missed Out On A Well Deserved Hundred

Shubman Gill also expressed that he was nervous during the 90s and it got the better off him when he edged Lyon straight to the slip fielder Steve Smith to put an end to the remarkable innings. He felt that a hundred for the team would have been his best moment.

“I was playing well and striking the ball nicely. When I entered the 90s, I got a bit nervous and played a bad shot. I was disappointed to get out like that. Scoring a century for my team would have been the icing on the cake for me, after the win,” Shubman Gill stated.
