On the other hand, in India, the ODI side won the series against the West Indies. Ahead of the T20I series against the West Indies, ODI captain Shubman Gill congratulated the T20I side that won the gold medal in Japan.
Two Indian teams were playing on the same date, as India lost the final game of the ODI series; however, it won the series 2-1, and next, the T20I side that was in Japan will now face the West Indies National Cricket Team in a five-match T20I series starting on October 6. The Men in Blue would want to win this series as well.
Shubman Gill congratulates Team India over win in Asian Games
Ahead of the first T20I match, Shubman Gill was spotted at the airport and, replying to the ANI reporter, stated that he congratulated every cricketer personally and, further, in the same video, he again congratulated the T20I team on their Asian Games 2026 gold medal. This showcases the love and affection of the ODI captain towards the T20I squad.

Gill said (as quoted by ANI), “Sir, it was great; I did congratulate them personally, and he yet again added, congratulations to the Indian team and my teammates, thank you.” Gill has not been a part of the T20I squad given the pool of players in the shortest format of the game; he last featured in the Asia Cup 2025.
Abhishek Sharma starred in the Asian Games
India at the Asian Games 2026 won the final by 19 runs, as the Men in Blue won the toss and opted to bat first, and it was a masterclass from Abhishek Sharma on a rank turner as he produced one of the finest knocks, scoring 61 runs, and the finishing touches from Tilak Varma, who scored 51 runs, as India posted 211.
Coming out to chase, Pakistan fell short of the target as they kept losing wickets, and except for Hasan Nawaz, who played a knock of 96 runs, the whole side failed, as they could only score 192/6.
Shubman Gill wins POTS against West Indies
On the other hand, in the third ODI, West Indies chased down their highest successful run in the ODIs, with Shai Hope leading from the front as he scored 162* runs. This was a dead rubber match where Rohit Sharma played a crucial innings of 92 runs, and KL Rahul scored 129* runs, as they posted 351, with Windies winning it by 5 wickets.
Shubman Gill was awarded the Player of the Series for his excellent run flow, as he finished with 334 runs in the series with one century and one double century, with the latter coming in a 406-run chase for the Men in Blue. He has been in excellent form in 2026 and is also the leading run-scorer for the side in the calendar year so far.
The Men in Blue's next ODI assignment is against New Zealand in November, where Shubman Gill's side will face the Black Caps for a five-match series.
