Shubman Gill silences doubters, beats Ben Stokes to win ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for July 2025

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the winner of the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for July 2025. Team India Test skipper Shubman Gill earned the prestigious award due to his outstanding batting performances in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 series against England, led by Ben Stokes.

Gill has won the ICC Player of the Month award for the fourth time. He also won the award in February 2025, January 2023, and September 2023. He is the first male cricketer to reach this milestone, with only Ash Gardner and Hayley Matthews among female players having won the award as many times.

"The double ton in Birmingham is obviously something I will cherish forever and will be one of the highlights of my tour to England.

Shubman Gill described his double century in Birmingham as a memorable moment from his England tour. He said that the Test series was a valuable learning experience as captain. Gill stated that he is motivated to maintain his form and achieve further success for India in the upcoming matches.

"The double ton in Birmingham is obviously something I will cherish forever and will be one of the highlights of my tour to England," Gill stated.

"The Test series against England was a learning experience for me as captain and we had some outstanding performances from both sides, which I am sure players from both sides will remember for a long time.

"I would like to thank the jury for selecting me for this award and my teammates who have been with me during the course of this exciting series. I look forward to continuing my form in the season ahead and bring more laurels for the country."

Shubman Gill Became First Indian Captain to Score Double Century in England

Shubman Gill played a key role in India’s win at Edgbaston, scoring 269 runs in the first innings and 161 in the second to help secure a 336-run victory. His 430-run total in the match ranks as the second-highest in Test history, behind only Graham Gooch’s 456.

Gill became the first Indian captain to score a Test double century in England and the second Indian captain to achieve a double hundred overseas after Virat Kohli.

His form dipped at Lord’s with scores of 16 and 6 but bounced back with 103 runs at Old Trafford, helping India earn a crucial draw. He finished the five-Test series with 754 runs at an impressive average of 75.40, earning the Player of the Series award.
