Day 4 of the ongoing fifth and final Test between India and England was turning into a one-sided affair at The Oval, but suddenly, everything changed, thanks to the young captain Shubman Gill. A loud and powerful shout from Shubman Gill rescued India from the brink of defeat and stunned England on Day 4.
As England looked ready to win the final Test on Day 4 itself and clinch the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, India’s young captain Shubman Gill pulled off one of the most jaw-dropping turnarounds in recent Test history with a war cry, “Ek ghanta zor lagayenge!”

Then the cricket world got to see pure magic. The battle cry turned a slipping contest into a stunning comeback that left England gasping for breath as they edged closer to victory. England was chasing 374 runs to win—a target no team has ever chased at The Oval in over 120 years.

At 106 for 3, England was in a tough spot, but then Harry Brook and Joe Root built a solid 195-run partnership. They scored runs easily and fast and struck impressive centuries. They needed just 73 more runs to win with six wickets in hand, and everybody thought the match was over for India.
But just after the tea break, things took a turn. With India looking flat and the bowlers running out of energy, Shubman Gill did what Virat Kohli used to do in such situations. The Indian captain infused fire into his bowlers with a war cry to spark a miraculous comeback against England.
Ek Ghanta Zor Lagayenge: Shubman Gill’s battle cry gives India new life in 5th Test
Shubman Gill was caught shouting to his teammates on the stump mic, “Ek ghanta zor lagayenge, uske baad sab mil ke aaraam karenge. Let’s give it everything for one more hour, then we’ll all rest together.”
His words gave India a new energy, and the Indian bowlers came back fired up. In his first over after tea, Prasidh Krishna got Jacob Bethell out for just 5 runs. In the very next over, Krishna removed England’s main man Joe Root for 105, and England fell to 337/6 from 301/3.
The Oval went silent as the England fans could not believe what they were watching, as India was back in the game. Even though the sky turned dark and some rain came in, India kept pushing hard. But just as the bowlers were heating up, bad light stopped play early.

England 35 runs away from victory, India need 4 wickets
The umpires took the players off the field. At stumps, England is 339/6 on Day 4. Now, the hosts need just 35 more runs to win the final Test and clinch the series, while India needs four more wickets to level the ongoing five-match Test series. Notably, India have not won a Test series in England since 2007.
Jamie Smith is batting on 2, while Jamie Overton is yet to open his account. Injured Chris Woakes was seen in full gear and ready to bat if needed. However, England has not yet confirmed whether Chris Woakes will bat if needed.
