Former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja has praised Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Shubman Gill for his remarkable consistency with the bat during the IPL 2025 season. The former batter compared Shubman Gill's batting with that of star Indian player Virat Kohli, adding that both batters don't take unnecessary risks.

Shubman Gill scored 76 runs off just 38 balls, including 10 boundaries and two sixes, during the IPL 2025 match against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday, May 2. The Titans posted a total of 224/6 in 20 overs. In response, SRH managed 186/6 and lost by 38 runs.

We Have a Virat Kohli in Our Country, But Shubman Gill Is No Less - Ajay Jadeja

Speaking on JioStar, Ajay Jadeja said that Shubman Gill has the ability to score quickly without playing reckless shots. Jadeja added that Gill and Virat Kohli capitalize only when bowlers make errors, and rarely give their wickets away.

"It's business as usual with Shubman Gill because this man is just so consistent. We have a Virat Kohli in our country, but Gill is no less. If you look at the consistency with which he scores - it's similar in style," said Jadeja on JioStar.

“They don't take unnecessary risks; they wait for the bowler to make a mistake. Unless absolutely required, you rarely see them throw their wicket away. Skill-wise, Gill is outstanding,” he added.

I Think the Right Word for GT Was ‘Energy’ - Ajay Jadeja

Ajay Jadeja said that the Gujarat Titans showcased aggressive catching and ground fielding, especially Rashid Khan’s exceptional catch. Jadeja added that GT looked determined to bounce back after the loss against the Rajasthan Royals.

"I think the right word for GT was ‘energy'. That catch from Rashid Khan, and all those diving efforts, were fabulous. He ran a lot, slid in, and still managed to pull it off. That effort shows,” Jadeja opined.

“What we saw was a Gujarat Titans side probably stung by their last loss against Rajasthan Royals. One thing they were sure of was giving it their best, and the energy was top-level. I haven't seen GT field with this kind of intensity before. They've taken brilliant catches in the past, but here, energy was clearly fuelled by what happened in the last game. When you lose a game like that, you come back tougher - and they certainly did," he added.

Can GT Qualify for the Playoffs After Their 38-Run Win Against SRH?

After being asked to bat, the Titans scored 224 runs for the loss of six wickets. Jos Buttler chipped in with 64 from 37 deliveries, while Sai Sudharsan scored 48 off 23. Sudharsan reclaimed the Orange Cap from Suryakumar Yadav.

In reply, Sunrisers Hyderabad faltered under scoreboard pressure. Prasidh Krishna bowled with great control and finished with figures of 2/19. SRH could only manage 186/6 in their 20 overs.

This win lifted Gujarat Titans from fourth to second place in the IPL 2025 points table. With four matches left in the league phase, they now need just one more victory to secure a spot in the playoffs. GT will target at least two more wins to reach the 18–20 point mark for a top-two finish.
