Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh pinpointed Shubman Gill as he trolled the rising Indian batting star in the recent post shared by Rohit Sharma.

India won the Test series against England 4-1 under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. After that Rohit took the young Indian players Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Sarfaraz Khan, and Dhruv Jurel for an outing.

He posted a picture with the youngsters on his official Instagram handle with the caption “garden mein ghoomne wale bande”. The caption refers to his comments from the Test series when he said “Koi bhi garden mein ghumega”.

Speaking about Shubman Gill, he scored 452 runs across five Test matches with two centuries. After not scoring too many runs in the first Test matches, Gill scored two centuries in the next four Test matches including a 110 in the first innings of the Dharamsala Test.

Yuvraj Singh has been a massive pillar of strength throughout Shubman Gill’s career. After Gill’s century in the Vizag Test Yuvraj praised the youngster for silencing his critics.

“Rising to the occasion once again and playing a well-balanced knock! Good to see the three digit mark. Well played my boy – let the bat do the talking,” said Yuvraj.

Previously Sunil Gavaskar criticised Gill for being too aggressive in his approach to Test cricket and criticised him for his dismissals in the first few innings of the Test series.

“What kind of a shot was he looking to play? One can understand if he was looking to play it in the air but it was just a badly executed on-drive. He did all the hard work and then played a shot like that,” Gavaskar said.

Former England skipper Kevin Pietersen also expressed his concerns about Gill’s future in Test cricket after his initial failures. Despite failing to score in his first few innings, Gill finished as the second-highest run-getter in the series with 452 runs from five Test matches.

“He has somebody in the dressing room who changed my game: Rahul Dravid. I don’t know if he will watch this broadcast, but go and spend time with Gill and do the same stuff he talked to me about. Get him to hit the ball on the off-side, practice picking the lengths better, and rotation of the strike. Do things that will help him become a better player,” Pietersen earlier said on JioCinema.

Shubman Gill To Lead Gujarat Titans In IPL 2024

Once he found form, it was KP who came out in full support of the Indian batter and suggested that he should be given more time.

“I don’t think you can get rid of someone after one Test match. He will play in the second Test, and let’s wait till that game. He has all the talent in the world to score runs. I want to see his batting in the upcoming game. ‘Let’s see how Shubman Gill performs. He is allowed to fail in a game. When we came to India in 2012, the whole team failed to perform in a game. We came back and won the series. Don’t write him off because of numbers after one Test,” he added.

With the Test series now done and dusted, Shubman Gill is gearing up to lead the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024.
