Shubman Gill to face major halt in career! Injury not limited to just 1 series

Indian Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill faced a major backlash in his career with the sudden freak neck injury that ruled him out of continuous games early in his captaincy career. Now, some reports from PTI have indicated that the injury is more serious than just a minor spasm.
India missed their skipper, Shubman Gill, in the first Test at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata as they played with just 10 batters across both innings of the game. Gill was then declared injured and sent back to Mumbai. Nitish Kumar Reddy was called in as his replacement.
The neck injury seems to have grown serious, and hence, he was ruled out of the ODI series, which will be played right after the conclusion of the Test series. This would mark his second series as captain of the India team after his first series ended with a 2-1 scoreline in favour of the opponents, Australia.
Shubman Gill's injury is not limited to just 'neck spasms' - Suggest Reports
The neck spasm first came to notice when Gill, having hit a fine sweep off Simon Harmer, immediately clutched his neck, and the physios came in only to take him out of the field. He was then also hospitalised at the Woodlands Hospital in Kolkata.
According to reports claimed by the PTI, the Indian skipper's injury is not limited to a neck spasm and will require extensive rest, prompting the management to avoid any risk with the dynamic batter.
"Gill has been given an injection to alleviate his symptoms and will need a period of rest before starting rehab, training and skill work. There is every chance he could also be doubtful for the T20I series,” the BCCI source said, as reported by PTI.
Shubman Gill has been replaced by Sai Sudharsan in the Indian playing XI for the second Test in Guwahati, and Rishabh Pant replaced him as India's stand-in skipper. KL Rahul, on the other hand, has been named the ODI skipper.
Shubman Gill might miss the T20I series as well
After the PTI reports claim an extended period of absence and then suggest a rehab for Shubman Gill, it can be assured that he is most likely to miss the T20I series, which is set to start next month on the 9th of December.
The T20I series concludes on the 19th of December, and then the Indian team will have a slight rest phase of over a month before they return with white-ball action against New Zealand from the 11th of January. Shubman Gill is expected to return in that series.
Will Sanju Samson be promoted back to his opening spot if Gill misses out on the South Africa T20Is?
If the Indian captain misses out on the T20I series against South Africa, which starts on the 9th of December, Sanju Samson might be citing this as the biggest opportunity to return to the top of the batting order.
It was this same opposition, South Africa, against whom Sanju Samson scored 2 of his three centuries in the shortest format of the game. However, after the Asia Cup Rising Stars, there were also talks about bringing Vaibhav Suryavanshi into the Indian senior men's setup.
The South Africa T20Is might be an interesting grab for Abhishek Sharma's opening partner.
