Former England National Cricket Team all-rounder Moeen Ali and the veteran leg-spinner Adil Rashid have picked the next Big Four of cricket.
Two young Indian batters, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, made it to the list picked by Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid, as the duo felt that the youngsters would dominate the cricket world for the next decade.
Shubman Gill, just the way he bats and the way he makes it look quite easy - Moeen Ali
Virat Kohli, Joe Root, Steve Smith, and Kane Williamson are regarded as the current Fab Four of cricket, but the aforementioned players are nearing the final stages of their careers.
Several young players have been delivering consistent performances for their respective international teams and have grabbed the attention of the fans and experts. And now Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid have filtered the batters, who could be regarded as the next Big Four.
The first name picked by Moeen Ali was of the India Test skipper Shubman Gill, who scored over 700 runs in the recent Test series against England.
"Shubman Gill, just the way he bats and the way he makes it look quite easy. In this series in England, his technique has gotten so much better. Sound guy and he's a top player, very nice, very elegant and stylish.
"There's certain things you watch a batter for, certain shots or certain things that a batter does, he's one of them, and not a lot can do that. The way he's batting right now, it feels like he's in complete control," Moeen Ali said on Beard Before Wicket.
He's a quality player - Moeen Ali on Yashasvi Jaiswal
Moeen Ali added that Yashasvi Jaiswal would be the second player in his list as the India opener has scored runs across different conditions and doesn't have any weaknesses.
"You're going to have to have two from India. He's a quality player. I would put him in 100%. He's played in India when these wickets have been ragging.
"They've not been flat wickets. Australia, away, did really well. And now England, he's done well. He's very difficult to bowl at. You watch him play, and there's nothing that stands out as a weakness. He plays spin really well. Joff troubled him a little bit but still a quality player. He's just a run-getter, someone who is hungry for runs. I like his style. He's going to score a lot of runs," he said.
Brook, Gill, Jaiswal… I would have Bethell - Adil Rashid
The veteran leg-spinner Adil Rashid said that Harry Brook, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and the emerging all-rounder Jacob Bethell would be the next Big Four.
"Brook, Gill, Jaiswal… I would have Bethell. In the next five or six years he will be there," Rashid said.
Meanwhile, Moeen said that he would pick Harry Brook and Rachin Ravindra alongside Gill and Jaiswal, and if given the fifth pick, he would go with Jacob Bethell.
“A lot of people know that he (Bethell) has not scored a 100 in any professional cricket, but it’s the way he bats. His issue is going to be actually a bit of injuries. He gets injured a lot. He is a very naturally talented, gifted player. He has got good power. I like his technique," Moeen said.
“So three (Brook, Gill, and Jaiswal) are there, and I am going to go with Ravindra, and I am going to go with Bethell at 5," Moeen added.
