The fifth day of the New Year Test between Australia and India proved to be a grueling affair as Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant led the visitor’s fightback against the odds. The partnership of 148 was enough to keep the Australian players including Marnus Labuschagne silent.

However, as soon as Nathan Lyon dismissed the dangerous-looking Rishabh Pant for 97, the Aussies once again voice and Labuschagne in his quintessential style started to encourage his bowlers while fielding at short-leg.

“That’s gonna rag with the new rocker,” he said. “That’s gonna rag with the new ball Garry [Lyon]. You’re gonna get both wickets here, Garry.” chirped Marnus Labuschagne.

After a point, his fellow teammates had had enough.

“Shut up Marnus”, said one “Don’t leave it in the sheds, Marnus” came another comment.

Labuschagne’s next comment was pretty obscure but it, however, led to one close-in fielder taking a cheeky dig at him and skipper Tim Paine.

“It’s amazing when you get a wicket, Painey, and Marnus starts talking again,” said a close-in fielder.“You’ve got to be consistent Marnus, talk all day!”

The moment, however, had shades of the conversation that took place between Paine and Matthew Wade where the duo could be heard teasing Marnus Labuschagne over Shane Warne and Andrew Symond’s derogatory comments on him on Kayo.

“When you’re 100 Tests in, and I’m commentating, it’s going to be exactly the same,” Paine said. “I’m going to be sitting there with Roy [Symonds] and Warnie saying the same thing. Hogpiling.”

“I’ll be coaching you in 10 years you’ll be playing and I’ll be saying, if you had taken Warnie and Roy’s advice back in the start, you wouldn’t be in this situation,” Wade added.
