Former New Zealand fast bowler and ace commentator Simon Doull recently named Kieron Pollard the best finisher of all time in the IPL.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Doull was playing a 'winner stays on' format, where participants are asked to compare a series of players one by one on certain metrics, with the winner staying on to be compared to the next player instead.

In this specific instance, Doull was asked to pick between finishers in IPL history. The selection of players reflected the best of the end overs batters in IPL history.

To start off, Doull was asked to pick between David Miller and Glenn Maxwell. He chose the Protean southpaw who is currently playing for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2026 and has played for Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Gujarat Titans, and Lucknow Super Giants in the past.

David Miller an early winner

David Miller was an important part of the Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab) line-up that finished runners-up in IPL 2014. Over the years, he has taken charge in the end overs many times. His magnum opus came in the 2013 season when he made a century in 38 balls against Royal Challengers Bengaluru after coming in to bat at No. 5.

Simon Doull preferred Miller to the likes of Glenn Maxwell, Rinku Singh, and Dinesh Karthik.

Miller ultimately lost to RCB and Australia's Tim David.

Despite David's relatively short career, Doull kept David in the game for a long time in the middle phase of the game.

Tim David has shown his full hitting power on display in the last few years of the IPL and all other T20 cricket in general. Recently, he became the second fastest player, by the number of balls faced, to score 1,000 runs in the IPL. David also played an important part in RCB winning the IPL title last year.

Simon Doull picked David over a host of big names, including Albie Morkel, Ravindra Jadeja, Yusuf Pathan, Dwayne Bravo, and Hardik Pandya

Pollard eventually gets home

Simon Doull then took David out of the game by preferring MS Dhoni to the Australian.

Doull also picked MS Dhoni over Andre Russell, but when faced with the final choice of MS Dhoni or Kieron Pollard, he chose the latter.

Pollard retired from the IPL in 2023 and has been the Mumbai Indians' batting coach since then. As a player, Pollard played a crucial role in delivering five IPL trophies to MI - the only franchise he has ever played for in the IPL.

Pollard's heroics in the end overs with the bat are arguably far too many to count. Apart from this, Pollard made timely contributions with the ball and was always a live wire in the field.
