SL vs BAN: "Wicket Was Not Easy To Bat On" - Sadeera Samarawickrama After Winning PoTM vs Bangladesh

Sadeera Samarawickrama was awarded Player of the Match for his sensational performance in the second match of the Asia Cup 2023 Super Four stage between Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lanka National Cricket Team and Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh National Cricket Team at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Saturday, September 9.

Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bowl first in the match. They conceded 257 runs against Sri Lanka and picked 9 wickets with Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud picking three wickets each and Shoriful Islam getting two wickets.

The star for Sri Lanka in the innings was Sadeera Samarawickrama who played an attacking brand of cricket and smashed the bowlers all over the park. He smashed 93 runs off 72 balls, including 8 fours and 2 sixes.

Chasing the target, Towhid Hridoy was the only Bangladesh batter who looked comfortable in the middle against the Lankan bowlers. He played a stunning 82-run knock, but the failure from other batters meant they were bowled out for 236.

Dasun Shanaka was the hero for Sri Lanka in the bowling department as he bagged three wickets by giving away runs at an economy of 3.11. Matheesha Pathirana and Maheesh Theekshana also got three wickets each while Dunith Wellalage picked up one wicket.

My plan was to play my normal game and back myself – Sadeera Samarawickrama

After winning the Player of the Match award against Bangladesh, Sadeera Samarawickrama said that the surface was difficult to bat on when he walked in the middle. The 28-year-old said that his plan was to play his natural game and steer his side past 250 runs.

“When I went to bat, the wicket was not easy to bat on. My plan was to play my normal game and back myself. My plan was to play as late as possible. Was waiting for the ball to come to me, not go too far forward,” Sadeera Samarawickrama said.

“I was trying to bat deep, plan was to get 250 for the team. Knew that wicket is going to play big part for spinner,” Sadeera Samarawickrama added.
