India Women's National Cricket Team openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma shattered 6 massive records after their sensational opening partnership in the ongoing one-off Test against South Africa Women. The match between the teams is taking place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. 

India Women on the toss and opted to bat first and so far it has been all about the openers in Smriti Mandhana and the Shafali Verma. The duo right from the start looked solid and put the South African women on the backfoot, asserting authority over the match on Day 1 itself. 

Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma looked a bit cautious at the start but once they had their eyes set, they took the game away from the opposition. Both the batters hardly put a foot wrong in her innings and played some incredible shots in their innings, making South African bowlers tired in the hot conditions at Chennai.

The duo shared 292 runs for the opening partnership before Smriti Mandhana perished in the 52nd over. The India vice-captain slammed 149 runs off 167 balls and made sure that she continues her white-ball into Test cricket as well. The left-hander also hit 27 fours and 1 six in her innings. 

On the other hand, Shafali Verma has been going strong. She registered her maiden ton in Test cricket for India and is making sure that she makes the most of the start that she has got. The opening batter was batting at 161 of 172 balls at the time of writing this piece to go with 20 fours and 6 sixes.

After their sensational 292-run opening partnership against South Africa Women, Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma broke quite a few records. They now share the highest-ever partnership for the Indian team in the history of Test cricket. This is also the highest-ever partnership by the Asian team. 

Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma with their 292-run stand also recorded the second-highest partnership in women's Test cricket. The 309-run stand by the Australian duo of Denise Annetts and Lindsay Reeler against England in 1987 is the highest.
