So England Can Beat India In India - Kevin Pietersen Takes A Dig At Selectors After England Legends Defeat India Legends

Former England captain, Kevin Pietersen decided to troll the national side and the selectors after his team, England Legends triumphed over Sachin Tendulkar-led India Legends in a game in the Road Safety World Series T20 2020-21 on Tuesday.

The Road Safety World Series tournament is hosting teams comprising of their former cricketers; all the matches are being played at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, Raipur.

Kevin Pietersen is leading the England Legends side and won a close encounter against India Legends by 6 runs. Batting first, Pietersen, who has donned the opener’s role, smashed the host’s bowlers for a belligerent knock of 75 runs off 37 balls as his side posted a big total of 188.

The India Legends had a glum start as they lost 4 wickets in the powerplay; the score was 117 when the seventh wicket fell and India’s first defeat in the tournament looked inevitable.

However, Irfan Pathan and Manpreet Gony delayed it. Pathan played a blinder of 61 runs off 34 balls and Gony kept the game alive till the last over with his 16-ball 35. Unfortunately, they couldn’t close the game and India fell half-a-dozen runs short concluding a thrilling game.

Kevin Pietersen has been in thunderous form with the bat – he has bagged two Man of the Match awards in as many games. In the first match against Bangladesh Legends, the right-hander harrumphed 42 runs from just 17 balls to cut down the chase before his another aggressive inning against India.

The 40-year-old former batsman took to Instagram to take a dig at the current England team, who lost the Test series against India recently by a 3-1 scoreline. England suffered defeat by 4-0 on their previous tour to India in 2016. In fact, it was in 2012 when India last lost a Test series at home – to England itself of which Kevin Pietersen was a key part.

“So England CAN beat India in India! How cool was that game? England selectors – we’re all available!” captioned Kevin Pietersen.

The England Legends, with two wins in two matches, are placed third on the points table. They take on Jonty Rhodes-led South Africa Legends on Thursday.

For the national side, Eoin Morgan’s team will face Virat Kohli’s in a 5-match T20I series commencing 12th March at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
