Indian wicket-keeper batter Wriddhiman Saha asserted that he never revealed anything to the media about him backing out of participating in the Ranji Trophy season for Bengal.

Saha has slowly fallen out of favor since age isn’t on his side and the Indian team management has started looking towards the future. As a result, Saha found no reason to take part in the Ranji but can focus on the IPL instead.

I went to the Cricket Association of Bengal and told the president that I would not play Ranji Trophy this season. Whatever happened after that was not in my control and I did not tell anything as I am still a part of the Indian cricket team and as per protocols, I cannot speak about anything that happens in the dressing room or any conversation that is spoken personally within the team. As long as I am in the team, I cannot tell anything. I did not say anything. Someone else must have told and hence the news,” Saha said.

“I have not thought about retiring” – Wriddhiman Saha

Saha bagged an IPL contract with Gujarat Titans for INR 1.9 crores and can focus on getting better in the T20 format. However, that doesn’t mean he intends to retire from Tests, not for now at least.

There is a shorter format (he was sold to Gujarat Titans for Rs 1.9 crore on Day 2 of IPL auction on Sunday). Next year’s Ranji Trophy is there. If I am selected for the Tests against Sri Lanka (next month), that’s there. Not planned for the future. I have not thought about retiring,” he added.

India will play Sri Lanka at home after the West Indies T20I series and Saha’s future will likely be decided there.
