One of the significant reasons for Kuldeep Yadav achieving unprecedented heights in limited-overs cricket was the former Indian captain MS Dhoni. While MS Dhoni relinquished the captaincy in late 2016 to make way for Virat Kohli, he remained equivalent to a leader behind the stumps. Kuldeep Yadav revealed missing Dhoni from behind the stumps as he used to guide him well.

Kuldeep Yadav’s international career has indeed been going downhill for the last two years as his wicket-taking ability has disappeared, with teams increasingly comfortable in milking him for runs. The 26-year old has also lacked confidence since the selectors have refused to give him an extended run in the side. Nevertheless, it is worth noting that 2020 and 2021 so far have produced only wickets in seven ODI games, with him yet to take one this year.

With MS Dhoni hanging up his boots in August last year, the Kanpur-born wrist-spinner has lacked enough support or guidance from his teammates. Several experts also opine that India not playing Yuzvendra Chahal and Yadav together has also resulted in the spin twins degrading. The two leg-spinners tasted unprecedented success as they thrived not only in home pitches but also overseas conditions, but with Dhoni retiring, the pair has been inconsistent.

I always felt every bowler needs a partner who can respond from the other end: Kuldeep Yadav

Kuldeep Yadav revealed missing MS Dhoni at times since the keeper-batsman had a staggering amount of experience and kept screaming from behind the stumps. The 26-year old hopes that Rishabh Pant gains it as the more he plays, the more he would attain it. Kuldeep also felt that every bowler requires a sound partner to respond from the other end.

“Sometimes I miss that guidance because he (Mahi) has great experience. He used to guide us behind the wicket, kept screaming! We miss his experience. Rishabh is there now, the more he plays, the more input he will give in the future. I always felt every bowler needs a partner who can respond from the other end,” Yadav said as quoted by News18.com.
