Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam became an unexpected target of outrage from furious Virat Kohli fans, all because of a hilarious case of mistaken identity.

The drama unfolded during the IPL 2025 clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 10, when DC’s young leg-spinner Vipraj Nigam dismissed Virat Kohli for just 22 runs.

After Arshad Warsi, now Sonu Nigam as Virat Kohli's fans continue to make social media blunders

The crucial breakthrough came in the 7th over, when Kohli attempted a classy inside-out shot, only to mistime it straight to Mitchell Starc at long-off, who completed a stunning sliding catch to end the Royal Challengers Bengaluru icon’s inning at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

But off-the-field drama was even more bizarre as some angry RCB fans, clearly not paying attention to the full name, flooded Sonu Nigam’s Instagram account with hate comments, mistaking him for Vipraj Nigam, the DC bowler who dismissed their RCB hero on Thursday.

Confused and overwhelmed by the sudden hate storm, the legendary playback singer had to turn off his Instagram comment section just to escape the madness of Kohli fans.

This wasn’t the first time such chaos broke out on Instagram. A few days before, Bollywood actor Arshad Warsi faced a similar online hate after Kohli was dismissed by Gujarat Titans’ Arshad Khan — another case of identity blunders by the fans on the social media platform.

Virat Kohli's animated discussion with Dinesh Karthik goes viral

Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bengaluru suffered their second consecutive home defeat in the ongoing IPL 2025 after going down to Delhi Capitals by six wickets. The visitors chased down the 164-run target with 13 balls to spare, thanks to a stunning partnership between KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs that completely turned the game in the final overs.

For most of DC’s chase, RCB looked in control. But as the match slipped away in the final stages, Virat Kohli’s frustration boiled over. During the 15th over, bowled by Suyash Sharma, Kohli was seen having an intense conversation with Dinesh Karthik near the boundary line.

Suyash came to bowl just after Josh Hazlewood had been smashed for 22 runs, putting RCB on the back foot. Kohli was visibly upset, pointing towards the RCB batting coach, possibly showing his displeasure over captain Rajat Patidar’s field placements or the bowlers' execution under pressure.

The moment highlighted the tension in the RCB camp as their hopes slipped away in yet another home game. Kohli, known for his passion, couldn’t hide his emotions as RCB’s bowling crumbled in the crunch moment, and they lost their second game at home.

Reacting to the scenes, Aakash Chopra said during the Hindi commentary, “This is an animated conversation with the coach Dinesh Karthik. He has to communicate this with Captain Rajat Patidar in the middle. Rajat is the captain of this team. Virat Kohli can have a discussion with Dinesh Karthik. Still, he needs to speak to Patidar.”

Virender Sehwag said, “I think Virat Kohli is speaking about the last over where Josh Hazlewood conceded 22 runs.”
