Sophie Devine to miss Sri Lanka series as she focuses on well-being

New Zealand Women’s Cricket Team captain Sophie Devine is all set to miss the upcoming white-ball series against the Sri Lanka Women, as she continues to focus on her well-being. This is the latest assignment Sophie Devine pulled off to posterize her well-being.
The 35-year-old all-rounder had previously pulled out of the Women’s Super Smash midway through the season and also opted out of the ongoing Women’s Premier League 2025 (WPL 2025) after receiving professional advice regarding her health.

After guiding the New Zealand Women’s Cricket Team to ICC Women’s T20 World Cup glory in October 2024, Devine played in the ODI series against India, the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) for Perth Scorchers, and the ODI series against Australia in December last year.
Her last appearance was in the Women’s Super Smash on January 24, where she impressed with a 5-wicket haul for Wellington against Canterbury. However, despite Devine’s absence, Wellington went on to win the Women’s Super Smash T20 title, with Amelia Kerr starring with both bat and ball.
Meanwhile, New Zealand Cricket's Head of Women's High Performance, Liz Green, has extended full support for Devine's decision, emphasizing that player well-being is a top priority. Green added that it is important for Sophie to feel fit and healthy before returning to the action.

Liz Green said in an official statement, “We are fully supportive of Sophie's decision to not take part in the upcoming series. Player well-being is our highest priority, and it's important Sophie feels fit and well before returning to professional cricket.”
Notably, New Zealand Women are currently gearing up to face Sri Lanka in the three-match ODI series, starting on March 4, followed by a three-match T20I series, starting on March 14. The squad for the home series will be announced later this month.

After hosting Sri Lanka Women in the white-ball series, the White Ferns will next take on Australia in the three-match T20I series, starting March 21. The upcoming T20Is are New Zealand’s first assignments in the shorter format of the game since their historic T20 World Cup win, where Sophie led the team to their first-ever title last year in the UAE.
Sophie Devine’s numbers prove she is a legend
Speaking about Sophie Devine’s career, the New Zealand all-rounder is a white-ball legend, representing the country in 152 women’s ODIs and 143 women’s T20Is since making her international debut in 2006. Earlier, she represented New Zealand in hockey as well.
The right-arm pacer has so far taken 107 ODI wickets and 117 T20I wickets. The right-hander has also around 4000 runs in the 50-over format, while she has 3391 runs in the shorter format of the game to her name in international cricket.
The Whiter Ferns skipper is also one of the women’s legends in T20 cricket, where she has over 5000 runs and 126 wickets to her name over 160 games across the Women’s Big Bash League, The Hundred Women’s, Women’s Premier League (WPL), and Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL).
