Former cricketers Sourav Ganguly, Harbhajan Singh, and Raghuram Bhatt have been nominated by their respective state units to attend the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 28. The BCCI will conduct elections, including for the president, during the AGM.
Former India all-rounder Roger Binny recently stepped down as BCCI president after reaching the board’s age limit of 70. A new president will be elected during the AGM. Notably, a new vice-president, treasurer, secretary, and joint secretary will be elected, alongside changes to the IPL governing council.
Sourav Ganguly, Harbhajan Singh, and Raghuram Bhatt Nominated to Attend BCCI AGM
The deadline for nominating representatives from the 38 BCCI units closed on Friday night. Sourav Ganguly, Harbhajan Singh, Raghuram Bhatt, and Jaydev Shah are among those nominated to attend the AGM.
Sourav Ganguly, nominated by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), is expected to contest for a BCCI office-bearer role or a position in the IPL. Ganguly had previously served as BCCI president in 2019, becoming the first former India captain to hold the post.
Harbhajan Singh, nominated by the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA), will be attending his first BCCI AGM. Although he has not been actively involved in cricket administration, he could be considered for an office-bearer role or a position on the IPL Governing Council.
BCCI to Accept Nominations on September 21
The BCCI returned to an electoral system from the Committee of Administrators six years ago, and office-bearer posts have since been filled unanimously without formal elections. Nominations for the upcoming elections will be accepted on September 21.
Apart from the president’s position, at least one other office-bearer role, likely the vice president, is expected to be filled. Rajiv Shukla, the current vice president, is poised to become acting president following Roger Binny’s departure due to the age limit of 70.
Devajit Saikia (secretary), Prabhtej Bhatia (treasurer), and Rohan Desai (joint secretary) remain eligible for re-election.
Sanjay Naik will represent the Mumbai Cricket Association, Arun Dhumal the Himachal Cricket Association, and Shukla will represent the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association. Shukla remains eligible for another term, with just over a year left before reaching the age cap.
