Sourav Ganguly says Virender Sehwag is the greatest opener after Sunil Gavaskar
During the promo, Sourav Ganguly made a bold statement about his former teammate and one of the all-time greatest openers, Virender Sehwag. The former Indian captain has called the former explosive opener the greatest opener in the world after the legendary Sunil Gavaskar.
Sourav Ganguly said in a Netflix promo, “After Sunil Gavaskar, the greatest opener is Virender Sehwag.” In international cricket, Sehwag has scored 16,119 runs as an opener, while Sunil Gavaskar has scored 12,258 runs as an opener for India.
Notably, Sehwag was known for his fearless and aggressive batting style, and he loved to dominate fast bowlers from the very first ball. The former Indian opener was famous for his powerful square cuts, effortless uppercuts, and straight drives against the fast bowlers.
Ganguly and Sehwag expose Pakistan's bowling tactics
Sehwag’s strength against the spinners was his swift footwork and the ability to play lofted shots over long-on and long-off with elegance. Meanwhile, Virender Sehwag revealed how Pakistani bowlers were generating the reverse swing and how he outsmarted them.
Sehwag stated, “The whole Pakistan team is so adept at scratching up the new ball and generating reverse swing. Because even if the ball is scratched, torn, or worn on one side, it’s still shining on the other side. So, keep your eyes on the shiny side of the ball. If the hinge is on the left side, then it will swing outwards. If the shine is on the right side, the ball will swing inwards.”
On the other hand, Ganguly noted, “They’d hide the ball while running. If you watch their action or their run-up, they’d keep it hidden so that the batsman doesn’t see the ball in front of them, and at the last minute there’d be a change.”
