Sourav Ganguly, who is the current Director of Cricket for the Delhi Capitals (DC), has decided not to take over as the head coach of the franchise.

Sourav Ganguly is advocating for his former India teammate Yuvraj Singh to fill the head coach position vacated by former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting.

Ricky Ponting recently resigned as head coach of the DC, which failed to advance to the playoffs in the last three seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The Rishabh Pant-led team finished sixth in the IPL 2024 and missed the playoffs despite having the same points as the fourth-placed RCB team.

Sourav Ganguly Out Of Race For Delhi Capitals Head Coach

In an interaction a few months ago, Sourav Ganguly showed interest in becoming the head coach of the Delhi Capitals.

However, it appears he will not be taking over the role from Ricky Ponting. The franchise management is likely to announce new coaching staff ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Sourav Ganguly has decided not to take over as the Delhi Capitals' head coach for IPL 2025. According to the Bengali newspaper

Aajkaal, Sourav Ganguly is supporting legendary allrounder Yuvraj Singh to be appointed as the new head coach before the next season of the T20 tournament.

The report added that Yuvraj is emerging as the likely choice for the Delhi Capitals' head coach position.

Recent discussions between Yuvraj and the franchise have been positive. The World Cup-winning cricketer is expected to take on the role of head coach, provided negotiations proceed smoothly.

Yuvraj Singh Played For Delhi Capitals In Indian Premier League 2015

Earlier reports suggested that Yuvraj Singh was in line to replace Ashish Nehra as the head coach of the Gujarat Titans.

However, the IPL 2022 champions are looking for a former Indian player to replace Gary Kirsten, who has become the white-ball head coach of the Pakistan men's cricket team.

According to Sportstar, the Delhi Capitals are interested in adding Yuvraj Singh to their coaching staff. The Capitals aim to strengthen their batting lineup for IPL 2025.

They are considering Yuvraj Singh as a potential mentor for the team's batters. Yuvraj has previously worked with players like Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma despite not having formal coaching experience.

Yuvraj also played for the Delhi Capitals in the T20 tournament. The southpaw was acquired for Rs 16 crore at the IPL 2015 auction, making him the highest-paid player at that time.

During the 2015 season, he scored 248 runs in 14 matches for the team but was released before the IPL 2016 auction.

If Yuvraj Singh is confirmed as part of the coaching staff, there's a high expectation for immediate results.

He should lead a strategic overhaul at the Delhi Capitals after their disappointing performances in recent seasons.
