Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was unstoppable at Headingley as he tore through England’s batting lineup with a stunning five-wicket haul in the ongoing first Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Chris Woakes, and Josh Tongue to finish with figures of 5/83 and once again proved why he’s one of the best in the world.
Jasprit Bumrah destroys England at Headingley, but Sourav Ganguly sounds alarm over lack of support
While Bumrah was on fire, the rest of India’s bowling attack failed to make an impact. Mohammed Siraj went for 122 runs and picked up just two wickets, while Prasidh Krishna scalped three wickets but conceded 128. On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur went wicketless.

Their lack of consistency allowed England to reach 465, falling just six runs short of India’s first innings total of 471 in the ongoing first Test at Headingley.
By stumps on Day 3, India reached 90/2 in their second innings and now lead by 96 runs. KL Rahul (47*) and Shubman Gill (6*) will resume play on Day 4 on Monday, June 23, in Leeds.
Such a pleasure to watch Bumrah bowl: Sourav Ganguly
Meanwhile, former India captain Sourav Ganguly hailed Bumrah’s heroics with the ball, but with growing concern. He said that it is always a joy to watch Bumrah bowl across formats and conditions, but hoped the rest of the bowlers give him more support from the other end.
Ganguly hinted that without help, Bumrah’s heavy workload could become a serious issue in the demanding five-match Test series in England. The former BCCI president made his point clear that the rest of the bowling unit must back Bumrah up, otherwise India could risk burning out their biggest weapon, and it could put their chances in risk in the ongoing Test series.
Sourav Ganguly posted on X: “Such a pleasure to watch Bumrah bowl in all formats of the game ... hope fully he will get support from the other end so that he can play 5 tests… it will keep India in the series.”

Fielding woes rob Jasprit Bumrah of more wickets as India looks to bounce back with the bat
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah could have taken even more wickets at Leeds if things had gone his way. A few no-balls cost him chances, but the real problem was the sloppy fielding. India dropped as many as six catches, letting England score those many runs, and missing several key moments that could have made Bumrah’s spell even more deadly at Headingley.
After finishing with impressive spell, Bumrah said that the pitch is good for batting right now, but it is slightly two-paced. The star pacer added that the new ball might swing because of the weather, which is normal in Test cricket, but hopes India can score big and build a strong lead on Day 4.
Bumrah said after the play of the Day 3 at Headingley: “At this moment pretty good wicket to bat on. It is a little bit two paced, no big demons in wicket. Due to weather, new ball will swing but that is what you expect in Test cricket. We would like to get a big total and get that cushion.”
