Sourav Ganguly has addressed the conflict of interest concerns surrounding his appointment as the head coach of Delhi Capitals while continuing as the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). Ganguly said there was no issue with him holding the two positions and pointed to an existing order from the BCCI ombudsman.
The former India captain was appointed Delhi Capitals' head coach on October 6, replacing Hemang Badani ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League season. The appointment marks Ganguly's first stint as an IPL head coach after several years in different roles with the franchise.
Sourav Ganguly appointed Delhi Capitals head coach
Ganguly's appointment brings a familiar face back into a more prominent role at Delhi Capitals. His association with the franchise dates back to 2019, when he joined as an advisor. He later worked as the Director of Cricket for both the men's and women's teams before taking charge as head coach.
The move comes after Delhi Capitals finished sixth in IPL 2026 and missed out on the playoffs. Ganguly will now be responsible for preparing the side for the 2027 campaign, with the franchise hoping his experience in leadership and team building can help the team push for its maiden IPL title.
Sourav Ganguly was also the head coach of Pretoria Capitals in the SA20, giving him previous experience in coaching a franchise side.

His response refers to the BCCI's ombudsman process concerning his previous and existing cricket administration roles. Sourav Ganguly had faced conflict of interest questions earlier as well, including during his time associated with Delhi Capitals while serving in cricket administration.
Ganguly also spoke about India's recent football matches, saying that playing stronger international opponents would help the country's players improve. He was speaking after India's 1-6 defeat to Uruguay in Kolkata.
