Dean Elgar will lead South Africa’s 17-man squad for their 2-match Test series against New Zealand. Kagiso Rabada will lead the bowling attack while Anrich Nortje continues to recover from his hip injury.

Regular spinner George Linde has been ruled out due to his wedding. In his stead, Simon Harmer received a call-up after missing out on international cricket for over 6 years. He last played for the Proteas in 2015 on their tour of India.

South Africa announced a 7-man pace group that consists of Rabada, Marco Jansen, Duanne Olivier, Wiaan Mulder, Lungi Ngidi, Glenton Stuurman, and Lutho Sipamla. Nothing changed on the batting front from their recent 2-1 victory over India.

Aiden Markram remains in the Test team as an opener and the team has decided to show faith in him despite his poor returns in Tests.

We know Aiden has made some errors but the team has been doing well and we are opting to stick with him,” Mpitsand stated.

Keegan Petersen and Temba Bavuma’s return to form will be a bonus for the team as a stern challenge awaits for them in the Kiwis’ homeland. Elgar will once again be the rock around which the batting order will try to pivot.
