India’s left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja brought a dramatic end to South Africa’s young all-rounder Tristan Stubbs’ superb innings with a perfect bowled dismissal on Day 4 of the ongoing second and final Test at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
Ravindra Jadeja tossed the ball up outside off, tempting Tristan Stubbs into another slog-sweep, but this time, the gamble didn’t work. Stubbs swung hard but failed to connect. The ball gripped, turned in, and crashed straight into the top of the off-stump, sending the bails flying.

The South African star had played beautifully for his 94 off 180 balls, hitting nine fours and a six, and looked set for a century before Ravindra Jadeja’s clever flight and turn got the better of him in Guwahati.
Moments after Stubbs’ dismissal, South Africa captain Temba Bavuma declared at 260/5, handing India a massive target of 549 runs to win the second and final Test in Guwahati.

Notably, Jadeja was the only bowler from the Indian camp who has not only fought but also brought the crucial breakthroughs for his team when the South African batters dominated on Day 3 and Day 4 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium.
The Indian all-rounder finished with the impressive figures of 4/62 in 28.3 overs in the second innings, while Washington Sundar got the better of Proteas captain Buvuma. In the first innings, Kuldeep Yadav led the charge with four wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Jadeja each got wickets as the South African side was dismissed for 489 runs in the first innings.
Double delight for Ravindra Jadeja in Guwahati
Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja has achieved a rare milestone in Test cricket, becoming only the second left-arm spinner to take 50 or more wickets against South Africa. The only other left-armer to do it was England’s Colin Blythe, who took 59 wickets way back between 1906 and 1910.

Looking at all bowlers since World War II who have taken 50 or more Test wickets against South Africa, only Jadeja and West Indies great Courtney Walsh have managed it at an average below 20, which highlights just how effective and consistent the left-arm spinner has been against the Proteas.
Additionally, Jadeja becomes the fifty-first Indian bowler to take 50 or more Test wickets against South Africa. The left-arm spinner now has 52 wickets at an exceptional average of 19.63.
Anil Kumble leads the list with 84 wickets at 31.79, followed by Javagal Srinath with 64 wickets at 24.48, Harbhajan Singh with 60 wickets at 28.40, and Ravichandran Ashwin with 57 wickets at 22.28.
India set to chase 500+ at home for only second time
On the other hand, South Africa set a daunting target of 549 for India to level the ongoing two-match Test series in Guwahati. India began Day 4 positively, with Jadeja and Sundar taking three wickets, but South Africa fought back strongly and put themselves in a strong position to win the match.
Now, India now faces a rare and huge challenge, chasing over 500 runs at home for only the second time in Test history. The last time it happened was in 2004, when Australia set 543 in Nagpur and India suffered a 342-run defeat, which is their biggest loss by runs in Test cricket.
