South African team has announced their squads for the upcoming white-ball tour of Sri Lanka. They will be without three of their first-team regulars in the ODI’s, but it presents an opportunity for the fringe players to step up.

The tour will comprise of three ODI’s followed by three T20I’s, with Quinton de Kock, David Miller, and Lungi Ngidi missing out on the ODI’s. Their plan is probably to focus more on the shortest format with the 2021 T20 World Cup being a priority.

While De Kock was rested for the ODI’s, Miller will miss out owing to a hamstring injury. Ngidi on the other hand will sit out due to ‘personal reasons’. Also missing from the ODI squad will be Bjorn Fortuin, with Junior Dala being the only newcomer in the ODI squad.

They will be up against a confident Sri Lanka who beat a second-string Indian squad in the T20I’s last month. All the games will be played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Like most other teams, South Africa was also hampered with injuries. Luckily for them, a couple of them have attained match fitness and will likely compete in the white-ball series.

Sisanda Magala sustained an ankle injury during the ODI series against West Indies. He was sent back home immediately from the tour. Dwaine Pretorius on the other hand was down with covid-19 and missed both West Indies and Ireland tours.

Having beaten a power-packed Windies side at home a while ago, South Africa will be buzzing with confidence. This will also be their final international series before the World Cup. So anything they need to test out will have to be done now.
