South Africa Test squad for India series officially announced; Temba Bavuma returns

On Monday, October 27, Cricket South Africa (CSA) officially announced the Test squad of the South Africa National Cricket Team for the upcoming series against the India National Cricket Team.

The South Africa National Cricket Team are currently in Pakistan as a part of their all-format tour and will soon be traveling to India for a high-octane red-ball and white-ball series against the Men In Blue.

The ICC World Test Champions, South Africa, have received a massive boost ahead of the series against India as their skipper, Temba Bavuma, has achieved full fitness.

Temba Bavuma, who is regarded as one of the best Proteas batters currently, was down with a left calf strain, which kept him out of the Pakistan tour. However, he has now completed his recovery and will be seen leading the team against the Shubman Gill-led side.

With his return to the side, David Bedingham has unfortunately missed out on the selection, which is the only change from the Proteas squad that recently locked horns with Pakistan.

"The South African Men’s selection panel has announced the 15-player squad for the two-match Test series against India from 14 - 26 November in the subcontinent," CSA stated on X.

"Test captain Temba Bavuma returns to the side after missing the recent Pakistan Test series as he completes his recovery from a left calf strain."

Talking about the rest of the squad, Aiden Markram will continue to play a key role at the top order alongside Ryan Rickelton while all-rounders Wiaan Mulder, Corbin Bosch, and Marco Jansen provide great depth to the Proteas line-up.

Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj will be spearheading the South African bowling unit, which consists of Simon Harmer, who recently completed 1000 First-class wickets.

It doesn't mean that it is the end of the road for David - Shukri Conrad on David Bedingham

Talking about the non-selection of David Bedingham, the Proteas head coach Shukri Conrad stated that the batter is still in the scheme of things and they are aware of his potential. He explained:

"It doesn't mean that it is the end of the road for David. It wasn't so long ago that he was one of our start performers at Lords. Really horses for courses. For what we're potentially going to face, I believe the guys that we've got are ahead in that respect.

"Every time you make a decision like that it is particularly tough, but you've got to take the emotion out of it. You basically look at the raw facts and say what do we believe is going to be effective on these surfaces and who is best to stack up against said opposition on those surfaces.

"When we play a Test match back home again, I'm sure David will be in that line-up, but purely for Pakistan and India, what we're expecting, the guys we have selected we believe are better equipped"
