South Africa have suffered a major blow ahead of the three-match ODI series against Pakistan, set to commence on Tuesday, November 4, at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad. Young batter Dewald Brevis has been ruled out of the upcoming series, and the board will announce a replacement in due course.
Brevis has played six ODIs for the South Africa national cricket team, scoring 110 runs at an average of 22.00 and a strike rate of 159.42. However, the batter has had disappointing outings on the ongoing tour, managing only 55 runs in three T20I matches at an average of 18.33 and a strike rate of 127.91.
South Africa's Dewald Brevis Ruled Out of Three-Match ODI Series Against Pakistan
Cricket South Africa (CSA) has officially confirmed that Dewald Brevis will miss the three-match ODI series against Pakistan after sustaining a shoulder muscle strain during the final T20I at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
According to the statement, Brevis will stay in Pakistan to undergo rehabilitation under the Proteas medical team, who will monitor his recovery closely. CSA further mentioned that a replacement for Brevis in the ODI squad will be announced soon.
"Momentum Multiply Titans batter Dewald Brevis has been ruled out of the three-match One-Day International series against Pakistan due to a low-grade shoulder muscle strain. He sustained the shoulder injury during the third T20 International at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Saturday," CSA said.
"Brevis will undergo rehabilitation with the Proteas Men’s medical team in Pakistan in preparation for the upcoming Test tour of India. His replacement for the ODI series will be announced in due course," the statement added.

Dewald Brevis Rested as Precaution to Avoid Aggravating Shoulder Injury
The South African team management clarified that Dewald Brevis was rested as a precautionary measure to avoid aggravating his shoulder injury, with a crucial Test series against India later this month.
Brevis’ absence is a setback for the visitors, as his explosive batting could have challenged Pakistan’s potent pace attack led by Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf. He was expected to play a major role in the visiting team’s batting plans.
Already missing Kwena Mphaka and Gerald Coetzee, South Africa now faces a tough task to stay competitive in the series. Pakistan holds a slight advantage, with the hosts looking to capitalize on home conditions and assert control in the ODI series.
Shaheen Afridi and Matthew Breetzke Unveil ODI Series Trophy in Faisalabad
The ODI series trophy was unveiled in Faisalabad on Monday, with both captains, Shaheen Shah Afridi of Pakistan and Matthew Breetzke of South Africa, attending the ceremony at the Iqbal Cricket Stadium.
It is worth mentioning that this series marks the return of international cricket to Faisalabad after 17 years. The venue last hosted an ODI on April 11, 2008, when Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by seven wickets.
All three matches of the series will be played at the same venue, with the second and third ODIs scheduled for November 6 and 8, respectively. The Proteas will conclude their ongoing tour of Pakistan, which has included both Test and T20I series.
