Fans on Twitter reacted after the West Indies cricket team defeated Australia in the second match of the series at the Brisbane in Gabba. The Kraigg Braithwaite-led side scripted history as they became only the second team after India to beat the Australia team at home in the last 32 years.
West Indies opted to bat first and they were reduced to 64/5. However, after that Joshua Da Silva (79) and Kevin Sinclair (50) batted magnificently well. Before Alzarrri Joesph (32) chipped in with a vital hand that powered them to a total of 311, which at one moment seemed impossible.
With the ball, West Indies was sensational as they restricted Australia to 289 runs, taking 22 runs lead. Alzarri Joesph picked four wickets whereas Kemar Roach chipped in with three wickets. The hosts then had a decent outing with the bat as they ended their innings of 193 runs.
Kirk Mckenzie (41), Alick Athanaze (35), and Justin Greaves (33) played vital hands for the team as they set a target of 215 runs to chase. West Indies were off the stupendous start with the ball as they picked wickets early on and left the opposition tottering at 136/5.
Shamar Joesph picked 7 wickets as West Indies bundled out Australia for 207 runs to win the game by 8 wickets. Steve Smith (91*) tried to keep his team in the hunt but fell short of partners. The series between the two teams ended in a draw as both teams won one match each.
The victory would mean a lot for the West Indies because they have had a tough past few months. Beating Australia that too Gabba isn’t a piece of cake. Brisbane is treated as Australia’s fortress as they don’t usually suffer defeats there.
This is also the first time Australia suffered a defeat in the pink-ball Test match
