SRH vs DC: Pat Cummins on the end of a heartwarming gesture from the Hyderabad crowd during SRH vs LSG match

The Hyderabad crowd sang 'Happy Birthday' to captain Pat Cummins during the recent clash between SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). A video of Pat Cummins receiving birthday wishes from the Hyderabad crowd went viral across social media platforms on the internet.

Pat Cummins celebrated his 31st birthday with a remarkable performance from his SRH teammates at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium on Wednesday, May 8. The home team clinched a dominant 10-wicket victory against the KL Rahul-led side, boosting their chances to qualify for the playoffs in the IPL 2024.

The SRH bowlers restricted the visiting team to a below-par total of 165 runs in 20 overs. Pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the pick of the SRH bowlers, conceding just 12 runs in his four overs and claiming one wicket. The home team successfully chased down the target in just 9.4 overs without losing any wickets.

During the first innings, fans in the stands joined the DJ in singing their beloved captain's birthday song. A fan shared a touching moment on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter).

Pat Cummins was bought for ₹20.25 crore by SunRisers Hyderabad in last year's auction. The pacer took over as captain from Aiden Markram. Under his captaincy, the 2016 IPL champions recorded multiple scores over 250, including a record-breaking 287 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

It's Hard To Get Answers - Pat Cummins

During the post-match presentation, SRH skipper Pat Cummins jokingly stated that Travis Head and Abhishek may have altered the pitch during the innings break. Cummins praised their positive approach, acknowledging the challenge for bowlers when facing such aggressive batters.

"Maybe Trav and Abhi changed the pitch in the mid-innings break (chuckles). Just let them go, two guys who are really positive. I am a bowler and it's hard to get answers when someone is going like that. Travis has been like this for the last two years. Not super conventional but he has got his methods," Cummins said.

Pat Cummins mentioned that he hadn't seen a lot of Abhi before the season. The right-arm pacer noted the rise in par scores and added that it's tough to bowl in the ongoing tournament.

"I haven't seen a lot of Abhi before the season. With two fielders out there it's really difficult for the bowlers. The par scores have gone up a lot. It's tough to come up with answers with the batters going like this. We love playing here but to win nine down, it was something unbelievable," Cummins added.

The Pat Cummins-led team is currently in third place in the standings with 14 points from 12 games and a net run rate (NRR) of +0.406. The Hyderabad team needs to win at least one game to be in contention for the IPL 2024 playoffs berth.

The Hyderabad-based team will face the Gujarat Titans (GT) in their next match at their home ground, Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, on Thursday, May 16.
