Pat Cummins’ captaincy has been doing wonders for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Abhishek Sharma in the ongoing IPL 2024. This season is certainly a breakthrough for the young opener, Abhishek, who is not looking less by any means than his Aussie opening partner, Travis Head, for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Opening for SRH, the 23-year-old batter has been performing exceptionally in the ongoing IPL 2024, and his incredible partnerships with Head have played a key role in the Orange Army’s dominance so far in the tournament. Abhishek has yet again stolen the show with his incredible hitting this season.

The Amritsar-born hard-hitter once again unleashed his attacking mode and played a blistering knock of unbeaten 75 runs off 28 balls laced with 8 fours and 6 sixes at an amazing strike rate of 267 to help SRH successfully chase down the 166 runs against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) inside 10 overs.

It was a run-fest at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium on May 8, as Travis Head also smoked 8 fours and 8 sixes during his match-winning knock of 89 runs off 30 balls against the LSG in the 57th match of the ongoing IPL 2024.

Abhishek Sharma emerges as power-hitting sensation in IPL 2024

After SRH’s historic chase against LSG, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra heaped praise on the Indian batting all-rounder for his power-hitting. Chopra has described Abhishek’s performance in the ongoing IPL 2024 as a compelling story.

Comparing his hitting style with Travis Head's, Chopra said that the young opener’s technique is cleaner, and his smooth backlift reminds him of legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh's batting.

The commentator also praised the SRH opener’s well-executed downswing and called his batting classy, featuring traditional shots. He also mentioned Head and Abhishek’s strike rate and said that the India all-rounder is not far behind the Australian star while highlighting his finesse and power-hitting ability.

Abhishek Sharma reminds me slightly of Yuvraj Singh: Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra said in a video uploaded on his YouTube Channel: “Abhishek Sharma is a very good story. If I compare their (Abhishek and Head's) hitting styles, Abhishek's style seems cleaner to me. The backlift comes nicely, it reminds you slightly of Yuvraj Singh, and the downswing is very good. You see class in his batting.

It seems like Head is taking people's class, as though he is just beating them up, and it seems just like an extension of cricketing shots in his (Abhishek's) case. He also hits sixes. He hit six sixes and eight fours, and scored 75 runs off 28 balls. If Travis Head had a strike rate of 296, he also had a strike rate close to 270.”

Notably, Abhishek has so far amassed 401 runs at an average of 36 and a strike rate of 205 in 12 matches for SRH so far in the ongoing IPL 2024. The SRH is currently ranked third in the standings with 14 points from 12 games and they will next face Gujarat Titans (GT) on May 6 in Hyderabad followed by the last group match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on May 19.
