Sri Lanka delivered a strong performance to beat Bangladesh by six wickets in their crucial Asia Cup 2025 match in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, September 13. Sri Lanka dominated with both the ball and bat as Sri Lanka made a perfect start in Group B in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025.

Bangladesh struggled early as Sri Lanka’s bowlers tore through their top order. Fast bowlers Nuwan Thushara and Dushmantha Chameera made a sensational impact by bowling maiden overs at the start of their spells in a rare T20I feat. Then, the star spinner Wanindu Hasaranga kept the pressure on Bangladesh throughout the match in Abu Dhabi.

At one point, Bangladesh was in deep trouble at 53 for 5 wickets, and it looked like they would collapse completely, but a record-breaking sixth-wicket partnership between Shamim Hossain and Jaker Ali brought them back into the game in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025.

After the match, the skipper Charith Asalanka said, “That was a dream start with two overs, two maidens, and two wickets. That is Hasaranga’s main weapon, the googly. Even we can't pick him properly. He's a superstar. Once we got 120 runs, we realized that we should finish it as soon as possible. Brilliant support from the fans. Even Bangladesh fans as well. Want to thank everyone who supported us.”
