Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC) has stated to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) that it is not in a position to host the Asia Cup T20 that is slated to be held in August & September this year.

SLC recently postponed the Lanka Premier League (LPL) due to the economic crisis in the country. On similar grounds, they have said they may not be able to host six teams for the tournament.

Sri Lankan cricket has conveyed that due to the existing political and economic situation in their country especially where foreign exchange is concerned it is not an ideal situation for them to host such a mega-event of six teams on the island,” an ACC source said.

No replacement venues confirmed by the SLC yet

Additionally, the UAE is one of the choices for hosting the event but the ACC source said that the replacement hasn’t been confirmed as of yet.

UAE is not the final replacement venue, it could be some other country, even India as the ACC, Sri Lanka cricket will first have to talk with Emirates Cricket Board officials to get final approval for the event,” the official also added.

The Asia Cup will be held just before the T20 World Cup which will take place in October-November in Australia.
