Sri Lanka National Cricket Team are currently in England for the three-match Test series. The two teams are currently locking horns with each other in the first game, which kickstarted on Wednesday (21st August) at Old Trafford in Manchester.

While the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team prepared well for the series, they had to face a massive scare, which turned out to be a fake. Ahead of the first Test, the Dhananjaya de Silva-led side faced a threat as a fire alarm inside the dressing room was raised, creating panic among the players.

As per a journalist from the Island nation, the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team players were evacuated from the dressing room as the fire alarm turned on. The team, however, was back in the room 15 minutes after they got to know that the alarm had rang mistakenly.

Coming into the series between Sri Lanka and England, the Island nation didn't have a great start to the tour. They went on to lose the practice game against the A team of the hosts. But for skipper Dhananjaya de Silva, it wasn't a thing to worry about as they didn't play the full-strength.

"We wanted to play a few matches, but that’s what we get. We didn’t go with the full-strength team. We have tried out a few players as well. The result didn’t go our way, but we had the preparation, I think. It’ll work in this match,” de Silva was quoted as saying by Cricket Times.

The Test series between England National Cricket Team and Sri Lanka National Cricket Team will be a key series in terms of the ICC World Test Championship. The hosts are placed sixth on the WTC points table with 36.54 percentage points while Sri Lanka is on fourth with 50 percentage points.

For England National Cricket Team to stay in contention for the World Test Championship, they need to win all three games. On the other hand, a whitewash for the island nation would end their chances of qualifying for the final of the tournament.

Sri Lanka lose quick wickets in the first Test against England

The first Test between Dhananjaya de Silva-led side and England is underway at the Old Trafford in Manchester. The visitors won the toss and opted to field first. However, the decision didn't work in their favor as they went on to lose early wickets. England pacers were all over the batters.

Gus Atkinson drew the first blood for his team as he removed Dimuth Karunaratne (2) before Chris Woakes chipped in and removed Nishan Madushka (4) and Angelo Matthews for a duck. With three quick wickets, Kusal Mendis (24) and Dinesh Chandimal (17) tried to bail the team out of trouble.

But they both lost their wickets quickly. Skipper Dhananjaya de Silva now holds the key for his team. The onus will be on him to take his team to a good total after they were left reeling at 72/5.
