Due to the continuing situation in Sri Lanka, the Asia Cup tournament has been at the heart of the controversy. The island nation’s suitability to host the event is being questioned on a regular basis.

On the sidelines of the IPL final, Sri Lanka Cricket authorities and BCCI secretary Jay Shah met to discuss this important subject.

According to sources, SLC officials made it plain to Jay Shah that they want to host the tournament and are working on all logistical difficulties to guarantee the Asia Cup takes place without a hitch in Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh Or UAE Might Host The Tournament

It’s worth noting that no decision has yet been made on whether Sri Lanka will be allowed to host it or if it will be shifted to another nation, but Jay Shah, in his capacity as ACC president, gave the SLC delegation a fair hearing.

According to sources, if Sri Lanka is unable to host the Asia Cup, a few other countries have been considered as a backup. UAE and Bangladesh are among them, and the date may vary. It could begin a few days sooner, on August 24th.

After careful examination of all factors, a final decision is likely in a few days. It is worth noting here that the Australian Men’s national team will be touring Sri Lanka for 3 format series before the Asia cup.

In fact, the Indian Women’s team is also scheduled to tour Sri Lanka next month for a 3-match ODI series. They are also scheduled to play 3 T20Is. It would therefore be interesting to see what decision Jay Shah takes because all these games will give a fair indication of whether the country can manage cricket matches in times of economic crisis or not.
