Sri Lanka Playing XI vs India- Asia Cup 2025, Super 4 Match 6
Openers: Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis (wk)
Sri Lanka would like to bow out of the 2025 Asia Cup with a win in their last match against India.
The Charith Asalanka-led side has been below par with the bat in the last couple of matches, and would like to correct that when the team takes on India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
The onus will be on the openers to get Sri Lanka off to a good start, which has been a cause for concern for them in the last two matches.
Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis' opening pair would want to get a big score under their belt.
This duo would also hope that the middle order batters also capitalize on he platform laid by them.
Middle-order batsmen and all-rounders: Kusal Perera, Charith Asalanka (c), Dasun Shanaka, Kamindu Mendis, Chamika Karunaratne, Wanindu Hasaranga
The opening pair will be followed by a middle order, which has been off colour in the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2025, which has led to Sri Lanka not being able to post a big score on the board.
The likes of Kusal Perera, Charith Asalanka, and Dasun Shanaka will have to come good if Sri Lanka has to challenge an in-form nowling lineup of India.
One of the biggest concerns for the defending Asia Cup champions in the T20I format has been the instability at the crucial batting position of number three.
Lanka decided to drop Kamil Mishara after a couple of poor outings at that particular position, which meant that Kusal Perera batted at number three in the previous match against Pakistan, but the move didn't pay much dividend.
The Lankan Lions will have to sort the puzzle of the number three batter for the Charith Asalanka-led side to increase their chances of winning the last match.
Bowlers: Maheesh Theekshana, Dushmantha Chameera, Nuwan Thushara
Unlike Lanka's batting, their bowling gave its best in an attempt to defend what was a small total of 133 runs, but failed due to a lack of runs on the board.
The team would hope for the bowlers to keep up the good work, as they seemed to have found the right bowling combination.
The only concern for Lanka going into the match against India would be the selection of the fifth bowling option, a job which is being done in partnership by Charith Asalanka and Dasun Shanaka.
Chamika Karunaratne, who was picked for the game against Pakistan, failed to make much impact with the ball. Due to this, the island nation will have to decide whether it wants to stick with him or bring in someone like Matheesha Pathirana.
All things said, Lanka is expected to go with an unchanged playing XI for what happens to be their last match of the tournament.
