Sri Lanka women’s cricket team will tour Pakistan to play the limited-overs series in the period of May-June this year. This would be their first major series since the Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia.

The Chamari Athapaththu-led side played in the qualifiers stage of the ICC Women’s World Cup and Commonwealth Games over the last 12 months. The Sri Lanka women last played an ODI match against Australia in October 2019 (excluding qualifiers fixtures).

It will also mark the return of women’s international cricket in Pakistan after the COVID-19 virus disrupted life across the globe. West Indies was the last team to visit Pakistan in December 2018 for the bilateral series.
Both the Sri Lankan and Pakistan teams will arrive in Karachi on May 19 for the three-match T20I series followed by as many ODIs. The first T20I is scheduled to kick off on May 24 followed by the second on May 26 and the third on May 28. The ODI series will begin on June 1 and will conclude by June 4.

“It is a great privilege for us to play the ICC Women’s Championship on our home soil and the side is very excited to welcome Sri Lanka. This edition provides us an opportunity to start fresh and make the most of the home advantage,” Maroof was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
“I am sure the team will perform to their fullest potential and the Pakistan cricket fans, who have extended us great support, will get to see better and consistent results,” she added.
Sri Lanka didn’t qualify for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 as the qualifiers round was called off in the wake of Omicron- the COVID-19 variant detected in Africa. Meanwhile, Pakistan finished at the bottom of the points table having won just one game against West Indies.
