Sri Lanka's First Side Is Already Fairly weak: Aakash Chopra On The Prospect Of Sri Lanka Fielding Their Second String Team

Former Indian opener-turned commentator, Aakash Chopra, believes that the India-Sri Lanka series will become a no-contest if the hosts are made to field their second-string team.
Due to the virus outbreak in the Sri Lankan camp, the start of the ODI series is all set to be rescheduled to either 17 July or 18 from July 13.
Sri Lanka have kept their second XI ready in case of an emergency while the first XI is serving isolation.
Speaking on his official Youtube channel, Aakash Chopra reckoned that the main Sri Lankan side has been found wanting consistently in the past few years and even their former players know that their main side is no match to a depleted Indian team.
“Sri Lanka also had two teams ready. One is in isolation, which has come back from England and the other one was practicing in Dambulla. But just think about it, Sri Lanka’s first side is already fairly weak.” said Aakash Chopra.
“Former Sri Lankan players believe that if the Sri Lankan main team wins even one match against the so-called second-string Indian team, it will be like a miracle because India’s second-string Indian team is better than their first team.” he added.

Chopra further added that the upcoming ODI and T20I series will turn out into a ‘no contest’ if Sri Lanka is forced to field their second string playing XI.
“In such a scenario, if their second-string side was made to play, it would not have been a contest. A bilateral series anyway does not have context and if you remove contest as well, what will be the fun.” he said.
As mentioned earlier, the ODI and T20I series between India and Sri Lanka are set to be rescheduled, and, as per Aakash Chopra, while it is concerning, it a new normal of life which one has to get used to.
“It is being believed that the series will be postponed. This has become a sad reality of these times that such things will happen. It is not great news but then this is concerning news. We all have to get used to this idea that such things are going to happen.” added Chopra.
