With Chennai Super Kings' campaign in the ongoing IPL 2025 done and dusted, the focus is on MS Dhoni once again. The five-time champions still have two games left to play this season, but are already out of the playoffs race.
For the first time in IPL history, CSK have failed to qualify for the playoffs for two seasons in a row. Their constant struggle this year has made one thing very clear: they will need to make several major changes to their squad if they want to challenge for the title next season.
With an eye on the future, CSK have already started signing up several young players. While the Chennai-based outfit has traditionally relied on experienced and senior players, it looks like they are going to change their strategy for the upcoming season.
They have roped in young players such as Ayush Mhatre and Dewald Brevis as injury replacements this season and are likely to buy more youngsters before the next season. With the focus on young players, MS Dhoni's presence in the team might disrupt CSK's plans.

Stephen Fleming on MS Dhoni's future:
MS Dhoni's future has once again become the talk of the town. Dhoni has been leading CSK this season after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the tournament owing to an injury. As of now, the franchise has not given any clear-cut update on Dhoni's future.
And it looks like there is still a decision to be made regarding MS Dhoni's future as a player. CSK head coach Stephen Fleming was asked about the same during the pre-match press conference ahead of the fixture against Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
In reply, Fleming gave a bizarre response, saying: "I don't know.:"
Fleming also spoke about CSK signing up young players this season, saying: "They have certainly had an impact which is positive from a season that has been a challenge. But we realised early on that we were off the pace. So to be able to introduce these players, they are definitely in line for the future as we regenerate the team and redevelop or reconfirm our philosophy of how we want to play."
"My point has always been a mixture of youth and experience. I am a fan of experience, experience wins tournaments. But the youth and talent in this country is something you can't ignore," he added.
Meanwhile, CSK will be looking to win their remaining two games to avoid a last-place finish. CSK have never finished at the bottom of the table in an IPL season and will be eager to maintain that record. They are currently languishing at the bottom of the table.
