Former India cricketer Hemang Badani has taken a sly dig at Stephen Fleming, saying that the former New Zealand captain has not played any significant role in the Chennai Super Kings' success over the years.
In 2008, which was also the inaugural season of IPL, Stephen Fleming was signed by the CSK as a player. The New Zealand great played just one season for the Chennai-based outfit before taking charge of the team as a head coach in 2009.
Stephen Fleming has been with the Super Kings group for a long time
He has been CSK's head coach since then. No other coach has enjoyed such a long term with a single team in the history of the IPL.
During his time with CSK, Stephen Fleming has guided the franchise to a record-equaling five titles. CSK won the IPL for the first time in 2010 before becoming the first-ever team to defend it as well. In 2018, CSK won their third title before winning it again in 2021 and 2023.

Stephen Fleming hasn’t won any titles: Hemang Badani
While Fleming is widely considered one of the most decorated coaches in the IPL, Hemang Badani believes the former New Zealand cricketer has not played a big role in CSK's success over the years.
Hemang Badani, who is plying his trade as the head coach of Delhi Capitals this season, stated that MS Dhoni and not Fleming is the main reason behind CSK's success.
"Fleming hasn’t won any titles other than the IPL. In the IPL, he has won the titles because of MS Dhoni," Badani said in a recent interview.
"I will say, Fleming is not the reason why CSK won. Dhoni is in that team. It is because of him that CSK won. If Fleming was alone, Chennai would definitely not have won these trophies. Fleming is not only a coach in the IPL but also in league games in countries like America and South Africa. What has he achieved as a coach in Big Bash, MLC, SA20, or Hundred?" he added.
CSK is going through one of its worst slumps
Meanwhile, things are not going well for CSK and Stephen Fleming this season. They started their season with a win over the Mumbai Indians before losing four games in a row. The five-time champions need to turn things around quickly or risk getting knocked out at the league stage once again.
On the other hand, Badani's Delhi Capitals have been the in-form team so far and are the only unbeaten team left in the competition. The Capitals have played three games so far and have won all of them.
