Star Australian cricketer Steve Smith is excited about the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, describing it as a clash between the two best Test teams in the world. Steve Smith stated that he is looking forward to facing Team India in the upcoming Test series at home, adding that it is going to be a great challenge.

The Australian national cricket team failed to secure the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for over a decade. Australia last defeated the Men in Blue in the red-ball series back in 2014 at home. They lost four consecutive Test series against the Indian team, including two at home, and will be hoping to reclaim the title.

India and Australia will compete in a five-match Test series later this year. Australia aims to prove themselves after losing consecutive home series. Meanwhile, India has the golden chance to achieve a hat-trick of series wins in Australia. The upcoming five-match series is expected to be a blockbuster.

I'm Enjoying Playing At The Moment - Steve Smith

Speaking to reporters, Steve Smith expressed his excitement for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. He acknowledged India as a very good side and added that it will be an exciting series between the two best Test teams in the world.

"I don't have any plans. I'm just enjoying playing at the moment, I'm pretty relaxed and looking forward to this summer. India's going to be a great challenge, they are a very good side, think we are probably the two best Test teams in the world going head-to-head over five Tests. I'm excited by that," Smith said.

The ace batter has joined the Sydney Sixers on a three-year deal after a successful stint with the Washington Freedom in the 2024 Major League Cricket. His availability for the early part of the BBL 2024-25 might be affected due to the Border-Gavaskar series, set to be played from November 22 to January 7.

I'm Happy To Bat Anywhere - Steve Smith

Steve Smith said that he is open to batting in any position the team requires, despite suggestions from teammates Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne. The New South Welshman said that decision will be made after the one-dayers in England.

"The conversations I've had so far is that we'll go to England…I'm there for the one-dayers then make a decision after that. There's conversations happening in the background. Guys like Usman [Khawaja] has said he likes me down at No. 4, think Marnus is of a similar thought pattern. We'll wait and see. I'm happy to bat anywhere," Smith added.

The former Australian skipper has an impressive record against India in Test cricket. The right-handed batter has amassed 2,042 runs in 19 matches at an impressive average of 65.87. The 35-year-old has scored nine centuries and five fifties, with a highest score of 192.
