Steve Smith who is currently playing the Big Bash League, opening the batting for Sydney Sixers has hilariously reacted to one of Marnus Labuschagne’s best catches in the BBL. In a recent video, Smith has kept up his rivalry with his Australian teammate and close friend Marnus Labuschagne, calling his efforts in the field ‘average’.

Marnus Labuschagne is known as one of the better fielders in world cricket currently. He was recently in the news for incurring two sensational run-outs against Bangladesh in the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

The Australian batter, who stitched a match-winning partnership of 192 runs with Travis Head, scoring a half-century in the World Cup final against India has been a top athlete since his debut. Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting dubs him a ‘sort of all-rounder’ because of the wicket-taking chances he creates with his fielding.

Steve Smith reckons that diving catches in top-flight cricket is very normal and thus he nullified one of Marnus’ diving efforts in the BBL. In a video, he was heard saying, “It’s not that good actually. Should be taken that at this level really.” Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne always have a lot of fun together with each other and Steve Smith never drops an opportunity to pull the legs of his Australian teammate.

Steve Smith hailed Pakistan’s spin bowling all-rounder Shadab Khan as one of the best fielders out there and credited his catch in the video. The BBL has already seen some spectacular efforts in the field in the new season. Sydney Sixers’ Jordan Silk’s diving save on the boundary line went viral over social media. His save helped the Sixers win the match against Melbourne Renegades on Friday.

Steve Smith has made a terrific start to his BBL campaign playing for Sydney Sixers as an opener. He was awarded the Player of the Match for scoring 61 off 42 balls against Melbourne Renegades. Sydney Sixers reached 175/6 with the help of Steve Smith’s half-century and then defended the total by eight runs against the Melbourne Renegades. Smith will soon join the Australian squad for the Test series against Pakistan starting from December 14.
