Ajinkya Rahane admits misreading pitch, says bowling first proved costly after KKR's loss vs SRH

Ajinkya Rahane is under fire not only because of Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) horrific start of the ongoing IPL 2026 season but also for his absurd rhetoric. With two losses and only a rain-interrupted point against the Punjab Kings, the pressure around the KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane has grown significantly, with critics slamming his captaincy and batting.

Amidst the massive backlash, former Australian captain and KKR opener Aaron Finch has come forward to support under-fire Rahane. Finch asked the current skipper to stay calm, ignore the chatter, and keep leading with confidence in the tournament.

KKR’s batting order in total confusion; Cameron Green adds to woes in IPL 2026

One of the biggest concerns for the Kolkata Knight Riders is the batting order, which has completely failed to stand up to rival bowling attacks so far this season. Rahane’s decision to open with Finn Allen has come under heavy criticism, as the combination has just failed badly.

And then, Cameron Green has disturbed their entire balance. The Australian all-rounder still hasn’t bowled this season because Cricket Australia wants to manage his workload. This situation leaves KKR to play Green only as a batter, and even he is not contributing with the bat at all.

Green has failed to make any impact. His low returns and limited role have left everyone wondering whether KKR’s huge investment of over INR 25 crores in him was worth it.

Ajinkya Rahane's controversial remark

Following a lot of noise over the Kolkata camp, Rahane reached his breaking point after the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) game. He said that critics were targeting him unfairly out of jealousy.

Rahane had said at the post-match press conference: "My strike rate... I have the best strike rate so far, from 2023. People who are talking are probably not watching the game or have a certain agenda against me. They don't like me playing. They don't like to watch me play. The amount of success I've got, I guess they're jealous about that.”

Stop biting everybody that's coming at you: Aaron Finch to Ajinkya Rahane

Amid the growing tension and uncertainty, Aaron Finch reminded Rahane that T20 cricket is unpredictable, and every player goes through ups and downs. The T20 World Cup-winning captain even encouraged the Kolkata skipper to stay positive and focus on playing his natural game instead of reacting to every comment made from outside in the ongoing IPL 2026.

Finch was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo: “Stop biting everybody that's coming at you. You are a very, very good player. You have a talented team. Continue to be really aggressive at the top of the order. T20 is a hard game. There are going to be ups and downs. You got 220 in the first game as a team and lost out in the second game as well, so back to the wall, be aggressive.”

After the home game against the PBKS was washed out, Kolkata Knight Riders got one point that pushed them to the 8th position in the IPL 2026 points table after losing the first two games. KKR will now host Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their next game on April 9 at Eden Gardens.
