Former England cricketer Stuart Broad has raised concerns over the ICC's sanction on Team India pacer Mohammed Siraj for his aggressive celebration during the third Test. Broad stated that while Siraj was fined 15% of his match fee for the act, no action was taken against Indian captain Shubman Gill.
Siraj, who has taken four wickets at Lord's, was penalized for breaching Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct. This relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.”
Mohammed Siraj Fined for Ben Duckett Send-Off Incident
Day 3 of the third Test at Lord’s ended with players from both India and England exchanging words in the final over. The Indian bowlers began Day 4 with high energy, as openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley resumed England’s innings.
Duckett scored quickly but mistimed a pull shot off a short delivery from Mohammed Siraj on the fifth ball of the sixth over. Jasprit Bumrah took the catch at mid-on, dismissing Duckett for 12 runs off 12 balls.
Siraj celebrated aggressively, shouting “come on” in Duckett’s face and making shoulder contact. The International Cricket Council later fined Siraj 15% of his match fee for breaching the Code of Conduct.
Shubman Gill Swears Live on TV and Faces No Action - Stuart Broad
Find this ridiculous. Siraj 15% for aggressive celebration. Gill swears live on tv & carries on and what? It’s either both or neither. Players aren’t and shouldn’t be robots but consistency is key https://t.co/5qtpxCmGZs

Stuart Broad criticized the International Cricket Council for the fine on Mohammed Siraj’s celebration. Broad added that Shubman Gill, who was caught swearing on live television, faced no consequences. He called for fairness and consistency in the application of rules.
“Find this ridiculous. Siraj 15% for aggressive celebration. Gill swears live on TV & carries on, and what? It’s either both or neither. Players aren’t and shouldn’t be robots, but consistency is key," Broad tweeted on Monday afternoon.
The ICC confirmed that Mohammed Siraj has been handed a demerit point. It was his second offence within a 24-month span. His previous demerit point came during the Adelaide Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.
According to ICC regulations, a player with four or more demerit points in a two-year period can face a ban.
Grow Some Fu*king Balls - Shubman Gill to Zak Crawley
India were bowled out for 387 runs - the same total England had posted in their first innings. England’s second innings began 90 seconds late, with Zak Crawley slowing down play at the end of Day 3. Jasprit Bumrah bowled just one over before stumps.
Crawley, who opened alongside Ben Duckett, pulled out late from his stance after facing just a couple of deliveries, which frustrated the Indian players. After defending the penultimate ball of the over, he signaled towards the dressing room, calling for the physio and checking his gloves.
The Indian fielders responded with sarcastic applause after sensing deliberate time-wasting. Captain Shubman Gill then walked up to Crawley, leading to a heated exchange between the two. The umpires had to step in to de-escalate the situation.
