Former England fast bowler Stuart Broad warned England of India as both teams are gearing up to face each other in the three-match ODI series opener on Tuesday, July 14, at Edgbaston.
The India National Cricket Team had a terrible T20I tour of Ireland and England, but Broad expects things could soon change for them. After losing both T20I series, India will now begin the three-match ODI series against England with some of their biggest stars back in the squad. Earlier, Cheteshwar Pujara backs Virat Kohli for 15,000 ODI runs, Rohit Sharma to dominate Jofra Archer.
Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah's return gives India fresh hope
Ahead of the first ODI at Edgbaston, Stuart Broad said that the India National Cricket Team will look like a completely different team in the upcoming series. He feels the return of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah could give India the boost they badly need.
India's tour has gone from bad to worse so far. The team first lost the two-match T20I series against Ireland 2-0. After that, they suffered another heavy defeat, losing the five-match T20I series against England 4-0. India could not win even one completed T20I during the entire UK tour.
However, the upcoming three-match ODI series could give India a fresh start. Several senior players are back in the squad, and Broad believes that Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah's inclusion will make a huge difference. He said Virat Kohli's presence always brings extra energy and confidence to the team.
Stuart Broad sends strong warning to England before ODI series
Broad also said that Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah have the same kind of impact. He feels their experience, leadership, and ability to perform in big matches make India a much stronger side. He also warned England to be ready for the much tougher challenge in the ODI series than the T20Is.
Stuart Broad said on the For the Love of Cricket YouTube podcast, “You bring the intensity of Virat Kohli into the squad, and it lifts everything. Everyone else seemingly performs better because you've got a hero of Indian cricket in Kohli. And Rohit and Bumrah have similar impacts. So, it'll be a different challenge for England in the ODIs.”
Stuart Broad questions Jasprit Bumrah's T20I snub after tough IPL 2026 season
The former England fast bowler also spoke about Jasprit Bumrah missing the recent T20I series, saying he was surprised to see India's leading fast bowler left out of the squad. Jasprit Bumrah's witty response to paparazzi wins heart; video goes viral.
However, Broad hopes Bumrah was rested and not dropped because of his poor IPL 2026 season. Bumrah had played a big role in India’s T20 World Cup 2026 triumph earlier this year, but he had a tough IPL 2026 season, taking only four wickets in 13 matches with an average of 102.50.
He signed off by saying, “I hope Bumrah wasn't left out for the T20Is against England because he had a really bad IPL with only four wickets. You would like to think he wasn't dropped and it was only a rest.”
Notably, Bumrah has not played an ODI for India since the 2023 ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad, and now he is back with the side and hopes to make a strong impact with the white ball in England.
