England pacer Stuart Broad has shown sympathy for England Test skipper Joe Root and head coach Chris Silverwood after the team’s miserable loss to Australia in Ashes 2021-22. Stuart Broad said that without any consistency in the team, it is incredibly a tough job for both of the team to lead the side.

England recently lost to Australia in the Ashes 2021-22. England lost 4 out of 5 games as 1 match ended in a draw. Australia won the 1st Test by 9 wickets, 2nd Test by 275 runs, 3rd Test by an innings and 14 runs, and 5th Test by 146 runs. Hence, they managed to retain the Ashes urn with massive wins.

I Have A Huge Amount Of Sympathy For Both Of Them: Stuart Broad

In his column for The Daily Mail, Stuart Broad wrote that he has sympathy for Joe Root and Chris Silverwood after the Ashes debacle. He also said that he cannot recall a more difficult two years for any England captain or coach than Root and Silverwood.

“It’s been incredibly tough for both Joe Root and Chris Silverwood to get any consistency in playing XIs or in the coaching staff, and that makes it hard to reinforce the messages you are trying to get across to the team.

“I have a huge amount of sympathy for both of them. In my lifetime, I cannot recall a more difficult two years for anyone to have been captain or coach,” Stuart Broad said.

Stuart Broad also said that England players were not good enough against Australia in Ashes 2021-22 series.

“At the end of the day, we England players weren’t good enough; Australia are a better Test team than us, and contain greater armoury in more positions. To win in Australia, you need your England team to be at its absolute best, and for Australia to have a really wobbly, torrid time,” Broad further said.

Stuart Broad was also part of the Ashes 2021-22 series. The right-arm pacer played 3 Tests and picked 13 wickets at an average of 26.31. While many England players failed to perform well against the Aussies, skipper Joe Root’s performance was the best among his team. He scored 322 runs in 5 Tests at an average of 32.20, finishing as the team’s highest run-getter.

After the Ashes 2021-22 loss, Chris Silverwood’s position as head coach is in big trouble. He is highly likely to be removed as the England coach. After Ashes 2021-22 defeat, England has slipped to the last spot in ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 points table.
